"What Makes The O&W Go?" is a public relations booklet that was published by the O&W sometime between 1942 and 1944, while Frederic E. Lyford was the Company's Trustee (1937 - 1944).
Very little information is known about this booklet's history. It was found aboard the former O&W business car WARWICK (owned by, preserved, and on display at the Arcade & Attica Railroad in upstate New York) and was given to Ken Hojnacki by that railroad's Superintendent. At this time (July, 2000) this is the only copy of the booklet known to still exist.
As an interesting side note, this booklet appears to be the only O&W publication in which they used this red bird mascot (we like to call him Owin W. Redbird).
(ed. Perhaps the C&O's mascot, Chessie the cat, paid the O&W a visit one night during the war and left a little fatter.)
