What is the NYO&W e-mail discussion list?

   The NYO&W Ry. Co. and ONElist.com have teamed up to offer this list as a way to bring together modelers, railfans, and historians that share a common admirration for the railroad we lovingly call the Old Woman - the New York, Ontario & Western Railway.

This e-mail list is for the discussion of all things O&W - everything from how to put wrinkles on engine 807's nose to how many rivets held together a Class X 2-10-2 to what shade(s) of gray were the O&W's diesels, and how to best model the O&W in 1869 or 1999. If you have a question about the O&W odds are some on the list has the answer. Many of the list members also have an interest in the other railroads that also served the O&W's territory, like the Middletown & Unionville, Deleware & Northern, Unadilla Valley, Delaware & Hudson, or the New Haven. We even have a few members that are literally walking railroad encyclopedias.

How does the NYO&W e-mail discussion list work?

   It works very well, thanks for asking . First you will need to join the list by subscribing to it. Only people subscribed to the list can send mail to it, this is so that the list server knows who to foward mail to. It also keeps spammers off the list.
   Once you are subscribed, the e-mail list works just like normal e-mail but instead of sending your letter to a person's address you send it to the list server's address (nyow@onelist.com). The list server then fowards a copy of your letter to each person that is subscribed to the list. To reply to an e-mail from the list just hit the REPLY button on your e-mail program, this will send your reply, after you hit the SEND button, to the list server's address so it will be fowarded it to everyone on the list.
   If you choose to, you can have the list's e-mails sent to you one at a time, like normal e-mail, or in a single daily digest. You can switch between the 2 at any time by going to ONElist.com's User Center. The digest is recommended for anyone that doesn't check their e-mail daily or gets large amounts of e-mail.
