From the Cortland Standard of Cortland, NY Tuesday, March 17, 1874
Last week was the most blustering of the season, and the
roads in some directions were badly drifted. From Monday until Saturday there
was no mail between Cortland and Virgil. All the cars came and departed nearly
or quite on time save the Midland, which arrived on Tuesday night and did not
leave again until Monday morning. On Sunday a snow plow and three locomotives
came over the road, breaking a passage for the train on Monday. A little bit
of energy on the part of the management could have kept it open all the time
and given us trains every day.
