From the Chenango Union of Norwich, NY Wednesday, September 6, 1871
DeRuyter - "On Friday last the Steam Shovel at Crumb Hill
loaded 105 large flats with gravel. This is the largest number ever loaded before by it on
one day. Our depot buildings are in the process of construction, and the prospects are that
we shall soon have a passenger and freight depot for the accommodation of this station.
"A large amount of ties, timber, etc., is passing this station almost daily for the road
west of us. A large amount of freight is being transporter over our branch of the Midland." -
